Key play

On the 10th play of a drive which had moved 63 yards, Iowa faced a fourth-and goal from inside the Florida one-yard line midway through the second quarter. The Gators’ Marcell Harris took advantage of a missed block and dropped LeShun Daniels for a two-yard loss to leave the Outback Bowl tied at 3-3. Iowa would never come that close to the end zone again

Key stat

Florida entered the Outback Bowl limiting opponents to a 46.4-percent pass completion rate, the second best in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Iowa found out why. The Hawkeyes completed just seven of the 24 passes they attempted against the Gators, a 29.1-percent completion rate that ranked as Iowa’s worst of the season. The Hawkeyes threw for only 55 yards in the game.

“We worked too hard to have it end like this. We’re a better team than we showed and that’s the disappointing thing. We didn’t bring our best.’’ — Iowa running back LeShun Daniels

FYI: The Cowboys finished an 8-6 season with a 24-21 loss to BYU in the Poinsetta Bowl after winning the Mountain Division of the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming does return quarterback Josh Allen but will be looking to replace junior running back Brian Hill, who made himself eligible for the NFL Draft last month after rushing for 1,860 yards this season. The Cowboys are in the market for a new defensive coordinator as well after coach Craig Bohl announced last week that Steve Stanard would not be retained. Stanard had followed Bohl to Wyoming from North Dakota State.
