During an interview on ESPN’s Mike & Mike program on Wednesday, Penn State football coach Bill O’Brien, pictured, said Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz was among a handful of college coaches who called him after initial inquiries were made by Nittany Lions players who are considering possible transfers. He said he appreciated the call, something a number of other coaches did not do.

Penn State players have until Aug. 6 to decide if they will leave the program in the wake of NCAA sanctions levied this week.

Iowa actively was involved in the recruitment of two current Penn State players when they were high school athletes, running back Akeel Lynch and wide receiver Malik Golden.
