Two of the top defensive recruits in the 2015 senior class — players who first met nearly two years ago when both were on unofficial visits to Iowa — bypassed scholarship offers from the Hawkeyes and announced Wednesday plans to attend Ohio State.

Justin Hilliard, a five-star linebacker recruit from Cincinnati St. Xavier whose younger brother, C.J. Hilliard, will be a freshman running back at Iowa this fall, and Jashon Cornell, a five-star defensive end from Cretin-Durham Hall in St. Paul, Minn., made verbal commitments to the Buckeyes during morning news conferences.

Listed as one of the top two linebacker recruits nationally, Hilliard also listed Alabama, Michigan and Notre Dame among his finalists. Cornell, ranked among the top six defensive end prospects, received his first scholarship offer from Iowa. He also considered Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State in addition to Iowa and Ohio State.
