Trenton Wallace saw his sophomore and junior baseball seasons end in heartbreak. He wasn't about to let it happen a third time.

Powered by the left arm and bat of Wallace, Davenport Assumption's baseball team cruised to a 41-win season, a Mississippi Athletic Conference title and a Class 3A state championship.

Wallace, an Iowa signee, is the captain of the Quad-City Times All-Metro team for a second consecutive summer.

After losing 1-0 contests to Central DeWitt in the district final each of the last two summers, Wallace was 11-0 on the mound with a 3A-best 0.29 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 72 innings. He also batted .420 with 16 extra-base hits, 33 RBIs and struck out only twice in 169 plate appearances.

Wallace, captain of the Iowa Newspaper Association and Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state teams in 3A this season, was an all-stater for three consecutive years. He finished his career 24-4 with a 0.57 ERA and 265 strikeouts in 185 innings.

He's one of four Knights on the 13 player first team along with Ben Beutel, Daniel Powers (both utility) and Justus Burke (outfielder). Beutel and Powers are both Division I bound and combined to go 17-0 on the mound.

Bettendorf, North Scott and Moline each had a pair of first-team individuals.

Wilton third baseman Evan Reifert captains the All-Eastern Iowa squad. Reifert, a three-year starter for the Beavers, batted a team-high .454 with 14 doubles, a Class 2A-best 9 home runs and knocked in 34 runs.

Pitcher Colin McCrabb and outfielder Jared Townsend join Reifert on the first team from Wilton, which won 26 games and reached a substate final.

Central DeWitt, Durant and Northeast each had two first-team selections.

Bradley signee and Geneseo catcher Keaton Rice is the captain of the All-Western Illinois squad. Rice batted .531 with 6 home runs and 43 RBIs for the Maple Leafs, who won 25 games and made a Class 3A sectional final.

Geneseo's Marshall Rice, Cade Humphries and Jacob Pauley are also on the first team. Rockridge, Ridgewood and Illinois state qualifier Orion also had multiple selections on the top team.
