MHS Boys-Wieskamp

Muscatine star Joe Wieskamp will play on one of the under-18 adidas USA Select teams at the adidas EuroCamp, which will take place June 9-11 in Treviso, Italy.

Joe Wieskamp was the first Iowa Class 4A boys basketball player to average more than 30 points a game in a season since 2002.

The Muscatine junior was named the Mississippi Athletic Conference's player of the year Monday.

Wieskamp, a 6-foot-6 Iowa recruit, registered 30.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the 15-win Muskies. He also was among the top 10 in the conference in assists, steals and blocks while shooting 56 percent from the field and making 62 3-pointers.

Named to the first team for a third consecutive season, Wieskamp had four games of 40 points or more, including a career-high 50 against Burlington.

League champion Bettendorf and North Scott each had two first-team selections.

The Bulldogs were represented by sophomore D.J. Carton and senior JMichael Young. Senior Bailey Basala and junior Corvon Seales made it for the Lancers.

Davenport Central senior Ray Miller, second in MAC scoring at 19 per game, was on the first team along with Pleasant Valley junior Brian Dayman and Davenport Assumption senior Trenton Wallace.

Basala and Miller were first-team selections for the second straight season.

Bettendorf's Curtis Clark was voted coach of the year. The Bulldogs (18-5, 14-2 MAC) play Sioux City East in a 4A state quarterfinal Wednesday night.

Clark's team had seven players average between 6.3 and 10.4 points per game.
