T.J. Case has been wanting to ease his freshman daughter Presley into the pressures of varsity basketball.

Saturday she showed she can handle the load.

Case scored a career and team-high 13 points, all in the second half, to help North Scott pull away to a 54-42 win over United Township on Saturday at the IHMVCU Shootout at Augustana College's Carver Center.

"I wanted to come out with a lot of spark and energy," Presley said. "I really wanted to show my best here because the atmosphere here is awesome and there were a lot of people here."

Case struggled early, missing her first four shots, but came on strong in the second half, making five of six, including two 3-pointers, helping carry a team that struggled to get efficiency out of its top scorers.

"She's a nice little ball-handler that can help take pressure of Karli and Rylie (Rucker) and she's a girl that can hit a shot," T.J. Case said. "I've got four pretty good seniors and they've been very good to me and I want to try to give them as much as I can but in the same token, the ultimate goal is to get that 'W,' we want to put the best players out there to do that and at times she gives us that."

It was all United Township early on as the Panthers took advantage of a cold-shooting Lancer team for a 9-2 first-quarter lead. The Lancers shot just 1-of-14 in the quarter but played solid defensively, creating seven turnovers.

North Scott (8-3) pulled to within 18-17, but the game truly turned with just over two minutes left in the half. UT's Jasmine Bell was whistled for a foul, only for the officials to recognize that Bell was not listed in the official scorer's book.

United Township (13-6) was issued a technical, and the end result was a 7-point possession as the Lancers buried all four free throws and Savannah Bogner hit a 3 to give North Scott a 24-18 lead.

The Panthers never led again.

United Township coach Carie Walker said Bell's name was entered in the Panthers' scoring book, but didn't get transferred over to the official book.

"It was very frustrating," Walker said. "We had turned in the roster and it was correct in our book that they copied out of but they said it's not a correctable error even though we did the right thing ... it kind of takes the (wind out of your sails) there right before halftime."

For a while, that seven-point swing looked like it could be the deciding factor in the game, but the Panthers struggled with foul trouble all game, and both Maddie Tague and Brandi LaFountaine fouled out while the Lancers upped their lead.

Bogner led the Lancers with eight points in the first half, helping the Lancers stay afloat during a cold start and finished with nine and eight rebounds.

"This is my second year on varsity and I'm a senior," Bogner said. "They're always telling me to be a leader so maybe this is my time to step up."

Ryleigh O'Brien led the Panthers with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Tague added nine points.

"I see improvement out of her daily," Walker said of the junior O'Brien. "She can 30 minutes non-stop if needed and with the foul situations we were in, we turned to Ryleigh to go up and down the floor to finish it out and she did. She's doing a fantastic job."
