Jayce Levy and the Knights play tonight at Dubuque Wahlert, a team Assumption has beaten three times in the past 24 months.

The first week of the high school football season is in the books. As usual, there was some shakeup from the preseason rankings I released last week. 

If anything, the first week showed central Iowa, in particular Dowling Catholic and West Des Moines Valley, continues to reign supreme in the Class 4A landscape.

Dowling, which has won three consecutive titles, downed Ankeny 28-10 and Valley silenced Bettendorf 49-13. Dowling and Valley meet Sept. 9 at Valley Stadium.

Pleasant Valley moved up three spots to No. 7 in my ballot after a 31-7 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson and Muscatine entered the top 10 after a 29-25 road victory against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
