Steimle advances in regionals: Davenport Assumption's Caitlin Steimle was one of three local players to advance to the next round of Class 3A regional competition Monday at Valley Oaks in Clinton.
Steimle shot a 92, one stroke behind Northeast's Megan Crockett, Vinton-Shellsburg's Rachel Tandy and West Liberty's Kelzi Mather. Steimle, a senior, had 46 on both nines.
Vinton-Shellsburg and Anamosa were the teams to advance. The regional final competition is next Monday at Stone Creek Golf Course in Williamsburg.
Tipton, Wilton move on: Led by two top-three finishers in Kailee Meyer and Addy Duwe, the Tipton girls golf team won Monday's Class 2A regional opener with a 390 total at Wapello's Heritage Oaks Golf Course.
Wilton also advanced to next Monday's regional final at Jesup with a 401 total, 17 strokes better than West Branch for second place. The Beavers' Alyssa Anderson was meet medalist with an 89. Durant's Paige McKee advanced with a 99.
Jacobs wins regional: Clinton Prince of Peace senior Caitlyn Jacobs fired a season-low 80 to earn medalist honors at the Class 1A regional held in Preston at Plum River Golf Course.
Calamus-Wheatland and Easton Valley advanced to the regional final next week at Little Bear Golf Course in Wyoming with 376 and 390 team totals, respectively. The teams finished 1-2 at the Tri-Rivers meet last week.
Bettendorf 7, Clinton 0: The Class 3A No. 8 Bulldogs (11-2, 7-1) posted their ninth shutout of the season to remain tied with North Scott atop the MAC.
Assumption 8, West 0: Molly Gervase and Liz Fennelly each scored two goals as the Class 1A No. 1 Knights (12-1, 6-1) remain a half-game back of North Scott and Bettendorf.
Muscatine 5, Central 1: Muskies (10-3, 5-2) scored four goals in second half to pull away from Blue Devils. Jalynn Roberts scored for Central.
