Roemer, Gottwald move on: The Mississippi Athletic Conference did not advance a boys golf team to the state tournament Tuesday, but the league wasn't completely left out of the Class 4A state meet.
Pleasant Valley freshman Jack Roemer and Bettendorf senior Steven Gottwald qualified for the 4A state meet after each shot 77 at Tuesday's district meet at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids. Burlington's Alec Henrich also advanced with a 72.
Henrich, Roemer and Gottwald advanced because they were the top two finishers and ties in the field from non-qualifying state teams.
Cedar Rapids Xavier claimed the 14-team district title with a 312 total. Cedar Rapids Washington was second at 318 and Dubuque Wahlert won a tiebreaker over PV (322) for the third and final spot.
Bettendorf was fifth at 323, Muscatine sixth at 327 and Davenport North seventh at 329.
Xavier's Matt Neumeyer was the meet medalist with an even-par 70.
The state meet is Friday and Saturday at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
Moline duo, Rocky's Thieme advance: Moline senior Kameron Dickerson and freshman Sam Spurgetis both advanced to the Illinois sectional tournament with 85s at the Illinois Class 3A regional at Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club.
Rock Island sophomore Lucas Thieme shot a 13-over 84 to also advance to the Homewood-Flossmoor sectional Monday at Balmoral Woods Golf Course in Crete, Illinois.
As a team, Rock Island shot a 344 to finish fifth while Moline shot a 345 to finish sixth. Pekin and Normal Community both tied for the top spot with 317.
Alleman captures regional title: Alleman had all of its golfers break 90 to shoot a 331, taking the regional title over Geneseo by eight strokes at the Illinois 2A regional golf meet at Mendota Golf Club.
Both teams advance to the Grayslake Central sectional at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club on Monday.
Ryan Rochholz led the Pioneers with a 78, 11 shots back of medalist Nick Ceruzzi from Sterling.
Mick Haverland shot an 84 to lead the Maple Leafs.
Kewanee shot a 397 to finish 10th.
Fulton captures regional: The Fulton golf team shot a 355 to win the Freeport regional title by three strokes over Galena at a Illinois Class 1A regional meet at Park Hills Golf Course.
Jason Sikkema shot a 76 to lead the Steamers, one shot back of medalist Marcus Smith from Winnebago.
West Carroll shot a 417 to finish 10th but senior Ethan Reiland shot a 95 to advance as an individual to Monday's Rockford sectional at Elliot Golf Course.
Rockridge captures title: The Rockridge golf team shot a 344 to edge Ridgewood by one stroke at an Illinois Class 1A regional meet at Kewanee Dunes.
Carson Hall led the Rockets with an 83.
Ridgewood freshman Thomas Bumann was the meet medalist with a 78 while Ethan Earl led Sherrard with an 81 as the Tigers also advanced with a team score of 351.
Mercer County's Connor Reid also advanced to the sectional meet at Crane Creek Golf Course in Kilbourne, as did Galva's Matt Graves and Mason Kaiser.
Riverdale wins regional title: Led by Tyler Bussert's 73, Riverdale captured the Class 1A St. Bede regional title with a team score of 310, winning by six strokes over Putnam County at Spring Valley Golf Course.
Bussert finished one shot back of Putnam's County Ian Roach for meet medalist.
Morrison's Corbin Wilkens (83) and Adam Lindstrom (88) both advanced to the sectional at Elliot Golf Course in Rockford, as did Prophetstown's Jaden Taylor (84).
Rock Island 5, United Township 2: Rock Island captured a share of its first Western Big Six title in school history with a win over the Panthers at the Panther Pitch.
The Rocks trailed 2-1 at halftime after a goal from Jordan Griser put UT up. Bryce Kent tied the game two minutes into the second half and Owen Beltran's goal midway through the half put Rock Island ahead.
Beltran added a second goal to put Rock Island up by three goals after Kyle Pearce scored earlier for the Rocks.
Moline 3, Quincy 1: Kyree Morney, Justin Kuffler and Gabe Graham all scored goals to lead Moline to the win over Quincy.
Moline took a 2-0 lead into halftime on Kuffler's goal in the 34th minute after a handball in the box on Quincy. The Blue Devils had come into the game having allowed just four goals in conference play.
Quincy still earned a share of the Western Big Six title.
Galesburg 3, Alleman 2: The Silver Streaks scored two goals in overtime to best the Pioneers and grab their first conference win of the year.
Assumption 3, Muscatine 1: The Knights moved into a tie for second in the MAC race with a win over Muscatine Tuesday night.
Lindsay Stratman led the way with 13 kills while Anna Corlett had 16 digs for the Knights, who improve to 20-5, 6-1, one game back of Pleasant Valley, whom they face in two weeks.
Kylie Welch added five aces, eight kills and nine digs in the match.
Muscatine was led by Paige Miller with 10 kills.
North Scott 3, Central 1: Grace Boffeli had 14 kills and Hannah Grimm had 42 assists in the Lancers' MAC win over the Blue Devils. Central took the first set 25-20 but North Scott rallied back to take the next three sets.
Raina Smith led the Blue Devils with 13 kills while Kami Knutsen had 28 assists.
North 3, Burlington 0: Justyus Jackson led the Wildcats with eight kills and four assists as North cruised to a win over Burlington. Bailey Ortega had 22 assists while Morgan Pollmiller had 11 digs for the Wildcats.
Clinton 3, West 0: The River Queens improved to 14-7, 3-4 MAC with a straight-sets win over the Falcons (2-14, 0-7).
