Geneseo takes 1A regional: With three players in the top five, Geneseo distanced itself from the field at Wednesday's Illinois Class 1A regional hosted by Putnam County in Granville.

The Maple Leafs finished with a 360 total, 24 strokes better than the hosts at Edgewood Park Golf Club. Jenna Cheek led Geneseo with an 84 while Lauren Murray had 89 and Emma Snell posted 92.

Kewanee's Riley Hansen was the meet medalist with an 80. Galva's Elizabeth Whitford (94) and Wethersfield's Cece Liichow and Natalie Yepsen moved on with rounds of 107 and 111, respectively.

The sectional is Monday at Metamora Fields Golf Club.

Sherrard edges Rockridge at United: Led by medalist Nikki Schmitt's 80, the Sherrard girls golf team won the Class 1A regional at Monmouth United with a 408 total. Rockridge was second at 419 and Mercer County third at 438.

Alleman's Alyssa Carpita and Megan Tanghe advanced as individuals with 101 and 105, respectively. Orion's Haley DeLille moved on with a 102.

The sectional is Monday at Metamora.

Moline advances trio to sectionals: Moline and Rock Island did not advance out of regionals as a team, but the schools weren't completely shut out of next week's sectional in Springfield.

Moline's Samantha Cramer (93), Madison Wenthe (100) and Addie Sanders (103) advanced as individuals in Wednesday's Class 2A regional at Oakwood Country Club.

Quincy won the team title with a 351 total. Moline was fifth at 424 and Rock Island placed seventh at 445. Freshman Charly Heber-Spates of Rock Island earned the final sectional qualifying spot with a 106.

Erie captures regional crown: Led by Madison Newton's 88, Erie captured the team title at the Class 1A Galena girls golf regional on Wednesday.

Erie, at 396, finished six strokes ahead of the second-place hosts.

Lexus Georgean (96) and Riley Redell (98) also broke 100 for Erie.

Prophetstown finished fifth but failed to advance any golfers to sectionals.
