Boys track and field

Snyder leads PV to Gateway title: Cody Snyder set his second school record of the season and Pleasant Valley's boys track and field team tallied 136 points to win the 97th annual Gateway Classic in Clinton.

After earning the discus record two weeks ago, Snyder threw the shot put 55 feet, 8 inches to win the event and break the previous mark of 54-11.

Snyder was the only double-winner for the Spartans on Tuesday. He also took the discus with a toss of 164-8. Distance runner Anthony Pena claimed the 3,200 in 9:52.82. 

The Spartans racked up 10 second-place finishes to finish 42 points in front of runner-up Clinton. 

The River Kings recorded four wins -- Qua Jones (400) along with the 1,600, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relays. 

Muscatine's Alphonso Soko ran a season-best 10.90 (eighth best in the state this year) to win the 100. Bettendorf's Demari Nicholson and Suni Lane finished 1-2 in the 400 hurdles in 54.78 and 55.20, respectively, both times above the current Drake Relays cutoff marks. 

Davenport North's quartet of Akendre Abbey, Collin Glazek, Zeke Hayslett and Isaiah Gibbs won the 400 and 800 relays. North crossed in 43.35 in the 400 relay and 1:30.01 in the 800 relay.

Northeast and Camanche went 1-2 in the small-school division. The Rebels swept the field events, including high jump and long jump titles from Axel Dondiego. 

Camanche's Mason Lanhart earned victories in the 100 and 110 hurdles along with leading off the victorious 400 relay. 

Girls soccer

Moline 9, Rock Island 0: Karima Rangel scored four goals and added an assist as the Maroons (4-5, 2-1) stayed a game back of the Western Big Six conference lead. The Maroons scored all nine of their goals in the first half, eight in the first 17 minutes.

Fiona Roehrs added a hat trick and Alannah Crompton scored two goals and added an assist in the win over Rock Island (3-6, 0-3).

UT 7, Galesburg 0: Ryleigh O'Brien and Sandra Camarillo each scored two goals as the Panthers (6-6, 3-0) erupted for five goals in the first half to remain tied with Quincy atop the conference standings.

Bettendorf 7, Central 0: Paige Wagner scored four goals and the Class 3A No. 5 Bulldogs (7-0, 4-0) also got goals from Alina Steffen, Alli Whitaker and Jaylen Cangas. Olivia Jackson earned her first varsity shutout.

North Scott 2, West 0: The Class 2A top-ranked Lancers (4-1, 4-0) got goals from Savannah Bogner and Lauren Blake to remain tied with Bettendorf atop the MAC.

Assumption 4, North 1: Livy Lansing, Elli Ivanic each had goals in the first half as the Class 1A No. 1 Knights (6-1, 2-1) won their third straight match.

Coral Dillie scored for the Wildcats (1-6, 0-4).

Muscatine 6, Burlington 0: Hannah Smith netted a hat trick in the second half as the Muskies (3-1, 2-1) pulled away against the Grayhounds (3-5, 1-2).
