Athletes of the week
The sharpshooter averaged 23 points and shot 52 percent from the field in wins over Muscatine and Davenport North. Brown buried 8 of 11 tries from behind the 3-point line against North en route to 28 points, just three off her career high. She also averaged three assists and three steals.

Moving up four weight classes from his freshman season, Esmoil went out and won the 132-pound championship at the prestigious Keith Young Invitational in Cedar Falls. Esmoil (7-0) had two second-period pins and knocked off third-ranked Gabriel Lewis of Denver 6-0 in the final.
Jayde Van Hyfte
The Arizona State signee joined the 2,000-point club Monday in the Bravettes' 73-39 win over United. The third member of her family to reach that milestone, Van Hyfte finished with 28 points. For the season, she is averaging more than 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for 8-0 Annawan.

Durant boys basketball
Last week: started season with three straight wins
After edging Danville in overtime of the season opener, Durant followed with wins over North Cedar and Bellevue Marquette. The Wildcats have six players averaging at least 8.7 points per game, led by Ty Chenault (13.3). Durant has held its last two opponents below 45 points.
Rock Island boys basketball
Last week: def. Galesburg 60-48 Friday; def. Ottawa 50-41 Saturday
JaMir Price helped the Rocks (6-1) emerge from a 27-27 halftime tie with Galesburg, finishing with 21 points and five steals. Randy Tucker added 13 points. Price finished with 18 points and Tucker added 11 in Saturday's win, another game in which Rocky broke free in the second half.

Coach Jeff Garrett earned his 200th career victory in Saturday's North-South duals. The Tigers beat Stillman Valley, 40-37. Seven Tiger wrestlers won at least two bouts, with senior Jason Bailey winning the 285-pound finale with a pin to give Sherrard the win over Stillman Valley.
