Teams of the week

Bettendorf football

Last week: defeated North Scott 31-21

After falling behind 21-17 and losing its starting quarterback to injury, Bettendorf scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to reach the Class 4A state semifinals for the fourth time in five years. Justin Wehr hooked up with Darien Porter for a 31-yard score, and Nigel McIntosh had a 63-yard touchdown run late to seal it. The Bulldogs have won 10 consecutive games.

Orion football

Last week: beat Clifton Central 24-21

Thanks to Ryan Fowler's 33-yard field goal in the closing seconds, Orion edged Clifton Central to reach the quarterfinals of the Illinois Class 2A playoffs. Orion (9-2) squandered a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, but marched 49 yards in the final minute to set up the winning kick. Sam and Seth West combined for over 150 yards rushing.
