Year: Senior

Kurth won the long jump and 100 meters last Thursday at the Jesse Day Invitational. Committed to compete at Army next season, Kurth recorded the best jump in the state this spring at 23 feet, 4 3/4 inches. He followed with a personal-best time of 11.01 seconds in the 100.

Ethan Snyder

School: Camanche

Sport: Golf

Year: Junior

Snyder shot a 5-over 77 on Monday to earn medalist honors at the Prince of Peace Irish Invitational held at Valley Oaks in Clinton. Snyder turned in the best round by six strokes to propel Camanche past North Cedar for the title. It was a big improvement for Snyder who never broke 90 for 18 holes last year.

Bekah Ryan

School: Erie-Prophetstown

Sport: Softball

Year: Senior

Ryan tossed a five-inning no-hitter while striking out 14 Monday in E-P's rout over Bureau Valley. She also was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI in helping the Panthers stay perfect in Three Rivers Conference play. Ryan already has struck out more than 70 hitters in 42-plus innings this spring.

Among the many highlights Saturday was Alex Axup clearing 10-7 in the pole vault, breaking a 14-year old school record. Other big A division winners included Kylie Wymer in the shot put, the 400 and 1,600 relay teams, Demetrius Johnson in the 300 hurdles and Jade Ford in the 800.

The Rockets (12-3) enjoyed wins over Orion, Alleman, Erie-Prophetstown and Sherrard and soared to No. 2 in the latest Illinois Coaches Association Class 2A rankings. The Rockets scored a combined 62 runs in the five wins. Jenna Swanson went 11-for-17 with 11 RBI during the week.

Last week: won Waterloo West tournament

The Spartans compiled five victories in the last week, including three to claim the title at the Waterloo West tournament. PV knocked off Waterloo East (9-0), Fort Dodge (1-0) and Waterloo West (2-1) to improve to 10-1 on the season. Caleb Stivers and Owen Ward had multiple goals in the tournament for PV while Josh Stivers recorded a dozen saves in goal.
