Davenport Assumption rolled through the Mississippi Athletic Conference unscathed and capped a 44-game win streak with its first state softball title.

The Knights were rewarded today with six all-staters, including three on the top team in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Pitcher Nicole Timmons, catcher Emma Valainis and pitcher/infielder Hannah Kelley were among the 22 players selected to the first team in 3A.

Timmons, a Drake recruit, was 25-0 and compiled 321 strikeouts. She struck out a state tournament-record 20 in the 8-0 title win last week over Albia.

Valainis, headed to Northern Iowa, smacked a team-high eight homers and drove in 52. Kelley, the MAC player of the year, was 19-1 in the pitching circle and team leader with 58 RBIs.

Timmons and Kelley are first-team selections for the second straight season.

Outfielder Sophie VanSeveren and first baseman Hannah Wislander were second-team choices and eighth grade infielder Olivia Wardlow made the third team for the Knights, who outscored foes 55-1 in the postseason.

In Class 5A, Davenport West's Lexy Monty and Pleasant Valley's Alexia Lara made the first team.

Monty, a pitcher and first baseman, tied for the state lead with 19 homers and drove in 66 while batting .471 for the season.

Lara, a pitcher and third baseman, spurred the Spartans to their first state title. She hit .473 with 12 homers and 50 RBIs while going 12-3 with a 1.45 ERA in the circle.

Durant, which placed third at the 2A state tournament, had a pair of first-team all-staters in pitcher Kamryn Meyer and catcher Cathy Ralfs.

Meyer, a sophomore, was 21-3 with a 0.90 ERA in 155 2/3 innings. Ralfs, a senior, led the Wildcats with a .438 average, 7 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Louisa-Muscatine's Randyn Carter also made the top team in 2A for a second straight year. She hit .459 with 10 long balls and 46 RBIs.

In Class 1A, Calamus-Wheatland senior Katie Banowetz earned a spot on the top team. Banowetz batted .500 with 18 extra-base hits and 54 RBIs while going 15-4 with a 2.56 ERA.

PV sisters Carli and Ellie Spelhaug made the second team in 5A while catcher Hannah Mausser was on the third team. Davenport West shortstop Jayme Finn was a second-team choice and second baseman Rachel Stewart claimed third-team honors.

Bettendorf outfielder Alli Wroblewski and Muscatine outfielder Brittni Lloyd also were on the second team. Muscatine catcher Jessi Butler was chosen to the third team.

In Class 4A, North Scott freshman Rachel Anderson captured third-team honors. The area had three second-team choices in 3A with Camanche's Madi Parson, Northeast's Megan Crockett and West Liberty's Macy Akers.

Durant's Ruby Kappeler was second team in 2A.

Davenport West's Steve Saladino and Assumption's Ron Ferrill were selected as coach of the year in 5A and 3A, respectively.

The Falcons were 32-9 and reached regional final under Saladino. Ferrill led the Knights to their best season in program history.
