Beecher's Kaylie Sippel tries to beat out a ground ball back to pitcher Lauren Rice in the fourth inning of a Class 2A state semifinal game Friday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois. Sippel was out on the play.

Morrison's Lauren Rice and Sherrard's Spenser Strandgard were among three players from the Quad-Cities to earn first team all-state softball honors by the Illinois Coaches Association on Thursday.

Rice, a Missouri recruit who helped Morrison reach the Class 2A state tournament, was 22-2 in the pitching circle with 217 strikeouts this season.

Strandgard is an Illinois State signee who propelled the Tigers to 13 wins and an appearance in the regional final.

Galva pitching ace Payton Weston was a first-team selection in 1A.

There were nine players from the Q-C named to the second team in their respective class.

Among those from the metro are Rock Island's Ashley Peters, Moline's Megan Adams and United Township's Kaitlyn Markin in 4A.

Morrison's Emma Melton and Brooke Stralow were on the second team in 2A along with Orion's Ann Smotenski and Rockridge's Amelia Thomas and Jenna Swanson. Galva's Kim Larson also made the second team in 1A.

The metro had a quartet on the third team -- Rock Island's Alex Sierens, Moline's Mackenzie Jacobs and UT's Alexus Coleman and London Jackson.
