Claire Park and Sarah Schemmel repeated as state champions. Bettendorf earned a trophy with a third-place finish at the state meet.

That group headlines this year's Quad-City Times All-Metro swimming and diving team. 

Park and Schemmel, who will be teammates at the University of Iowa next season, defended titles in diving and the 50 freestyle, respectively. 

Schemmel, in fact, earned automatic all-American status with her win in the 50 freestyle (23.11) and third-place finish in the 100 free (50.39).

Bettendorf, the MAC champion, has a metro-best five swimmers on the first team in Alexis Beine, Sage Ohlenshelen, Arianna Ottavianelli, Megan Schade and Emily Van De Wiele.

Pleasant Valley has two swimmers joining Park on the first team. Western Big Six champion United Township, Rock Island and Muscatine also have multiple first-team selections.

First team

Divers

Katherine Douglas, sr., Moline: A three-time state qualifier, she broke the Western Big Six record that stood since 1979 at 421.05 for 11 dives. She had a a personal-best score of 433.90 at sectionals to prevail.

Claire Park, sr., Pleasant Valley: The two-time Iowa state champion will continue her diving career at the University of Iowa. She finished with a score of 495.85 for 11 dives at state, more than 27 points clear of the runner-up.

Taylor Madison, sr., Rock Island: She finished third at the Big Six meet (329.95), third at sectionals (374.95) and was highest area Illinois diving finisher at state meet.

Swimmers

Taylor Beadle, sr., Muscatine: After not competing with high school team last year, Beadle returned and earned four podium finishes at state meet — second in 200 free (1:50.36), fourth in 500 free (5:04.19) and swam on two fourth-place relays. She's committed to swim at Missouri State next season.

Alexis Beine, so., Bettendorf: Participated in three events at state meet — swam second leg of sixth place 200 free relay, eighth in 200 individual medley (2:10.95) and 11th in 100 breaststroke (1:06.47).

Caitlin Dassow, jr., United Township: She won the 100 butterfly (59.55), 200 individual medley (2:15.34) and participated on winning 200 medley relay and 200 free relay at the Big Six meet. She was third at sectionals in 100 fly and fourth in 200 IM.

Mikayla DePover, so., Rock Island: The Big Six champion in 100 breaststroke, she was runner-up at sectionals with a school-record time of 1:08.73. She was also part of a Rock Island sectional champion and state-qualifying 200 medley relay team.

Emily Goodman, jr., Pleasant Valley: Shaved nearly a second-and-a-half off her regional time in 100 breaststroke to place eighth at state (1:06.25). She was on PV’s fourth-place 200 medley relay, took 19th at state in 500 free (5:19.05) and competed on 400 free relay at state,

Abby Jansen, sr., United Township: She accounted for four victories at Big Six meet — 100 free (54.27, three-time champ), 200 free (1:59.01, a fourth time), 200 free relay and 200 medley relay. The two relays each finished second at sectionals while she was fourth in 100 backstroke.

Abbey Klostermann, fr., Davenport Central: The Assumption student swam a personal-best 1:05.86 at regionals in the 100 breaststroke to qualify for state. She was ninth at state in 1:06.42 along with qualifying in 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

Sage Ohlenshelen, sr., Bettendorf: She recorded the Bulldogs’ best individual finish at state meet, taking third in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.13) along with 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:12.00). She also swam the breaststroke leg on third place medley relay.

Arianna Ottavianelli, fr., Bettendorf: Recorded the fastest 200 individual medley time in the MAC as she placed fifth in the event at state in 2:09.16. She was 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.14) along with swimming on third place 400 free relay and sixth place 200 free relay.

Megan Schade, sr., Bettendorf: Placed eighth at state in 100 butterfly (57.99) along with swimming on two third-place relays. She was a state qualifier in the 100 backstroke.

Sarah Schemmel, sr., Muscatine: MAC swimmer of the year and the Iowa recruit repeated as Iowa state champion in the 50 free (23.11 seconds), was third in the 100 free (50.39) and swam on two top-four relays at state. The Durant student earned automatic all-American status in both individual events.

Emily Van De Wiele, so., Bettendorf: The backstroke and freestyle swimmer came home from state meet with three top-five finishes. She swam backstroke on third place medley, opening leg on third place 400 free relay, was fifth in 200 free (1:53.45) and 14th in 100 back (59.99).

Aviana Zahara, jr., Pleasant Valley: The Alleman transfer was fourth at Iowa state meet in the 100 backstroke (57.53) and 14th in 50 free (24.69). She also swam on the Spartans’ fourth place 200 medley relay and state-qualifying 400 free relay.
