Assumption's Joy Ripslinger leaves the starting line for the 800-meter run during last month's Iowa Class 3A state meet in Des Moines.

The final competitive 800-meter run in Joy Ripslinger's high school career was her best one.

The Davenport Assumption senior finished fifth Saturday evening in the half-mile at the United States Track and Field Junior Nationals in an all-time Iowa best of 2 minutes, 7.18 seconds.

Winner of nine state championships and seven Drake Relays titles, the Arkansas recruit went out in 61.06 seconds and was in third place through 400 meters. She ran 66.12 on the final lap to finish just ahead of Sioux City East's Shelby Houlihan's previous all-time Iowa best of 2:07.35 in 2009.

Jacksonville high school junior Caitlin Collier won the title in 2:03.63.

Ripslinger, who ran 2:07.51 at the Class 3A state meet as a junior, plans to take some time off before competing in the Quad-City Times Bix 7 on July 29.
