First things first. My apologies for not keeping up my end of the weekly blog bargain. I missed a week and will be rectifying that right now.

The playoffs start this weekend. I'll be up at DeWitt to cover the Class 2A sectional tournament. I've seen plenty of Assumption and they will be the team to beat there. The Knights have seven wrestlers ranked by thepredicament.com in this field. The only other ranked wrestler is Creighton Fox of DeWitt at 285 pounds.

It's tough not to see Tony DeVriese (120), Kyle Springer (126), Topher Carton (132) and Eric Clarke (138) as well as Nick Georgean (152), Tony Parks (160) and Bradley Grothus (195) all advancing to next week for Assumption, along with Fox.

On the Illinois side, they start regional wrestling. Rock Island should be the favorite at the Geneseo regional, while out at Rockridge there is a meeting of some the best small school wrestling in the area including a strong Mercer County team, a very good Orion team, Riverdale and its standout heavyweight Mitch Keppy, as well as a Sherrard squad that shouldn't be underestimated.

Wednesday will start the 3A regional team duals. As of now I plan on being at Bettendorf for their match against Western Dubuque. I'll be back at the Bulldogs' place on Saturday for the 3A individual meet.
