CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The Esmoil brothers had little trouble reaching the top of the podium Saturday at the prestigious Keith Young Invitational.

Will and Bryce Esmoil combined for four pins and a technical fall as they captured titles for West Liberty in the 15-team tournament.

Will Esmoil, a sophomore, defeated Gabriel Lewis of Denver 6-0 in the final at 132 pounds. Bryce Esmoil, a senior, pinned Brayden Wolf in 1 minute, 44 seconds in the 195-pound finale.

Bettendorf's Will Jefferson (145 pounds) and North Scott's Jake Matthaidess (160) also won titles.

Jefferson squeaked past North Scott's Collin Lewis 2-1, and Matthaidess upended West Liberty's Joe Kelly 7-2.

North Scott finished fourth with 165.5 points, 2 1/2 behind runner-up West Des Moines Valley. Denver won the meet with 215 points.

The Lancers received third-place finishes from Mikey Wheeler (132), Zach Petersen (220) and Cole Ernst (285).

Bettendorf's Aiden Evans was third at 106.

Knights runner-up at Manchester: Powered by three individual champions, Davenport Assumption's wrestling team finished second at the Bob Murphy Invitational in Manchester on Saturday.

Defending state champion Matt Robertson (132 pounds), Adam Laubenthal (138) and Kole Kreinbring (160) won titles for the Knights.

Robertson pulled out a 10-4 win in the final while Laubenthal posted a 15-2 major decision. Kreinbring edged Benton Community's Brody Scheer 9-8 in the final.

Central DeWitt freshman Keaton Zeimet downed Assumption's Trenton McDonough 5-0 in the 106-pound finale. The Sabers, fifth with 147 points, received a runner-up finish from Logan Pitts (170).

Assumption's Seth Adrian (195) and Henry Martens (220) each took second. The Knights were without state champion Julien Broderson.

Loyd leads PV: Pleasant Valley's Eli Loyd finished third in the gold bracket of the 31-team Cliff Keen/Independence Invitational on Saturday.

The sophomore went 6-1 with four pins in the two-day tournament, his lone loss a 22-11 major decision setback to eventual champion Drew Bennett of Fort Dodge in the semifinals.

Carter Sergeant (220) placed fourth for PV while Dermot Weldon (160) and Carlos Rivera (160) were each eighth.

Columbus Community's Jarod Kadel finished second after losing to Fort Dodge freshman Drake Ayala 12-4 in the finals. Maquoketa's Abe Michel was fifth at 160.

Fort Dodge won the team title with 386 points. PV was 20th with 108 points.

Wilton prevails at Willard Howell: Thanks to four championships and two runner-up finishes, Wilton squeaked past Centerville for the team title at Wapello's Willard Howell Invitational.

Reid Johnson (126), Cory Anderson (138), Trey Brisker (152) and John Rife (182) collected titles for the Beavers. All four recorded bonus-point wins in the final, including falls from Johnson, Anderson and Rife.

Camanche, which finished third, had three champions in Cade Everson (132), Baylor Crigger (160) and Colby Snodgrass (220). They combined for seven pins in nine matches.

Wapello's Daniel Meeker (120) and Davenport West's Jacen Petersen (285) also won titles. The Falcons were sixth in the 11-team field with 85 points.

River Kings third at Dubuque: Clinton opened its season with a third-place finish in the seven-team Dubuque Invitational.

Isaac Larkin (138) and Ethan Barry (195) were Clinton's lone champions. Larkin was 4-1 with four falls. Barry posted two wins in what was a three-man bracket.

Lane Smalley finished second at 126 pounds.

North, Central crown champions: Eleazar Valerio (106) and Noah Schoephorster (152) captured championships to help Davenport North to third place at the five-team Dick Mellinger Invitational in Burlington.

Valerio was 3-0 with a pair of pins. Schoephorster was 5-0 with four falls.

Davenport Central's Cameron Heinz (113), Levon Bellemy (170) and Manny McGowan (285) won titles. The Blue Devils were fourth with 244 points.

Ottumwa won the meet with 411 points.

Tipton third at home invite: Tipton crowned three champions in its home tournament Saturday — Austin Lenz (113), John Crowley (120) and Ben Emerich (126).

Southeast Polk's junior varsity won the meet with 219 points. North Scott's JV was second at 160, followed by Tipton (157) and Midland (132.5).

Midland had three champions in Damon Huston (106), Trevor Gudenkauf (132) and Brett Schoenherr (220) while Northeast's Wyatt Schmidt (160) and North Cedar's Tyler Thuston (170) also took titles.

North Scott's JV was led by weight class championships from Zachary Campbell (152) and Dakota Asleson (195).

Moline goes 3-1: The Moline wrestling team went 3-1 on Saturday in a quadrangular at Plainfield South.

The Maroons (7-1) recorded wins over Normal West (43-20), Pekin (51-16) and Normal Community (45-16). Its lone loss came to Plainfield South, 35-31.

Jayden Terronez (152) had four pins and Isaiah Martinez (126) went 4-0 for the Maroons, who wrestle at Geneseo on Wednesday.
