The Quad-City Mallards announced Thursday they have re-signed forward Josh MacDonald and defenseman Chris Leibinger.
MacDonald was acquired from the Rapid City Rush in a February trade that sent defenseman Mike Monfredo to the Rush. Kevin Gibson was also traded to the Rush last month to complete that trade.
Since joining the Mallards, MacDonald scored six goals and added nine assists in 22 games and also led the team in the postseason with six points in five games.
“Signing Josh this early in the summer is huge for us,” Mallards coach Phil Axtell said in a release. “Along with Chris Francis, he’s the second of our top five scorers to re-sign. Josh is only going into his third year of pro hockey and I think his team-leading production in the playoffs is very promising for the 2017-18 season.”
Leibinger played five regular season games for the Mallards last year after completing his college career at Michigan Tech. The versatile Leibinger played both forward and defense for the Mallards, including playing in all five postseason games, recording two assists in the playoffs.
“Chris was part of a culture that brought the Michigan Tech program back to its winning ways,” Axtell said. “Signing a player like Chris was a key component to our success down the stretch. His ability to play any position on the ice is an asset any team would like to have.”
