The Quad-City Mallards have signed goaltender Kris Joyce, the team announced Monday.
Joyce made his professional debut last season, signing an amateur tryout agreement with the Orlando Solar Bears. Joyce saw relief action in Games 6 and 7 of the Solar Bear's opening round Kelly Cup playoff series against the Florida Everblades. He did not record a decision, allowing three goals on eight shots in 24 minutes and 47 seconds of playing time.
Joyce joined Orlando from the University of Windsor, where he went 6-10-0 with a 2.88 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and one shutout in 20 games last year, his only season with the Lancers.
“Kris is a promising young goalie who first got on our radar when he attended the Los Angeles Kings’ development camp earlier this summer," Mallards head coach Phil Axtell said. "He’s not only a talented player but also a great kid who we’re excited to have joining us."
Joyce is currently taking part in the Chicago Wolves' training camp in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, along with fellow Mallards Justin Kovacs, Josh MacDonald, C.J. Motte and Sam Warning.
