Following the reassignment of from Keegan Kolesar from the Quad-City Mallards to the Chicago Wolves and with Mallards goaltender C.J. Motte signing a professional tryout agreement with the Mallards' AHL affiliate, the Mallards signed goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos to a standard player contract Thursday.
Sakellaropoulos, 23, played for the Fort Wayne Komets during the preseason, going 1-1-0 with a 1.88 goals against average and .920 save percentage while playing 63 minutes and 41 seconds.
A rookie from Tinley Park, Illinois, Sakellaropoulos turned pro after completing four years at Union College, part of the Dutchmen's NCAA championship team as a freshman. As a senior he went 22-6-2 with a 2.60 goals against average and a .916 save percentage in 30 games.
In his four years he went 40-22-13 with a 2.54 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and posted three shutouts in 82 games.
