Second Round Football Playoff: Orion vs. Clifton Central

Tipton at state volleyball: The only school from the Quad-Cities area to make the state volleyball tournament, Tipton makes its debut at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids against Osage at 10 a.m. in a Class 3A state quarterfinal.

Led by talented sophomore and junior classes, the Tigers (32-6) have not dropped a set in three postseason matches. The program already has established a school mark for wins in a season and now aims for its first state tournament win.

Adirondack at Mallards: Off to a 4-4 start, the Quad-City Mallards play their second of eight home games in November. Adirondack, based in Glen Falls, New York, is 4-4-1. It is the only meeting of the regular season between the teams.

The Mallards are coming off a weekend split, winning 4-3 against Indy on Friday before suffering their most lopsided loss of the year 7-1 at Fort Wayne on Saturday. 

Ten-ounce beers will be sold for $1. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. at the TaxSlayer Center.


Bettendorf at UNI-Dome: For the fourth time in five seasons, the Bettendorf football team is in the semifinal round of the Iowa high school playoffs. Unlike the previous three trips. the Bulldogs hope to take their season one step further. 

Fourth-ranked Bettendorf (10-1) clashes with top-ranked Iowa City West (11-0) at 4:06 p.m. in Cedar Falls, the first of two Class 4A semifinals. Iowa City West ended Bettendorf's season last year in the opening round of the playoffs, 24-17. 

College hoops openers: The Division I men's college basketball regular season tips off. Iowa opens at home against Chicago State at 8 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes recorded exhibition wins over William Jewell, 105-81, and Belmont Abbey, 96-64. 

Iowa State travels to former conference foe Missouri for an 8 p.m. tip while Illinois welcomes Southern for a 7 p.m. start.


Iowa at Wisconsin football: After a 55-24 beatdown of then No. 3 Ohio State, the Hawkeyes travel to Camp Randall Stadium in Madison to face sixth-ranked and Big Ten West division leader Wisconsin. 

The Badgers are one of five undefeated teams remaining in FBS, joining Alabama, Georgia, Miami (Fla.) and University of Central Florida. They can secure a trip to the Big Ten championship game with a victory.

Kickoff is 2:35 p.m. on ABC.

Illinois state football quarterfinals: Orion, led by Iowa recruit Logan Lee, is the lone Quad-Cities area team remaining in the Illinois football playoffs.

The Chargers (9-2) face Three Rivers Conference foe and top-ranked Sterling Newman (11-0) in a Class 2A quarterfinal at 1 p.m. in Sterling.

Orion, which advanced with a field goal in the final seconds Saturday against Clifton Central, lost to Newman 35-21 on Sept. 8 in Orion.
