Long-time Quad-City times Bix 7 icon Joan Samuelson has pulled out of this weekend’s Chicago Marathon because of an injury.
Samuelson, who won the Bix 7 four times in the 1980s and has run in the Davenport race 31 times, had hoped to become the first 60-year-old woman ever to run marathon in less than three hours. She may still attempt that but it won’t be Sunday in Chicago.
Samuelson still plans to attend the marathon, but only as a spectator.
"Chicago holds a special place in my career, and while I cannot compete this year, I am looking forward to cheering on thousands of runners as they chase their goals and tell their stories on race day," she said in a statement.
