COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Thanks to six bonus-point victories, the Iowa wrestling team beat Maryland 40-6 Sunday at the Xfinity Center, their 24th straight Big Ten road win.
The Hawkeyes got pins from Brandon Sorenson at 149 pounds and Alex Marinelli at 165. It's the first collegiate pin for Marinelli in the second bout of his freshman career.
Iowa also got technical falls from Michael Kemerer at 157, Cash Wilcke at 197 and North Scott grad Mitch Bowman at 184, who won his bout over Spencer Woods 20-5.
Iowa (7-0, 3-0 Big Ten) held a 32-2 advantage in takedowns and led 40-0 before forfeiting at heavyweight, Maryland's only points of the dual.
Head coach Tom Brands said the decision to forfeit was his and not any issue with heavyweight Sam Stoll.
"You don't take anything for granted. You have to go out and wrestle," Brands said. "Forfeiting heavyweight was my call. I'm sure it's not popular with the fans, but it's one of those things where you do the right thing. It's early December. There is no issue with Stoll."
