The Arconic Foundation is partnering with Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and IowaWORKS to provide a manufacturing internship program.

The Arconic Foundation Global Internship program connects local manufacturing companies with individuals interested in entering the industry, according to a news release. The program provides 50 students, ages 18 to 24, with the opportunity to earn $10 per hour for 100 hours.

Students will job-shadow at least two manufacturing employees and work on at least one manufacturing project, according to the release. Plants around the world are participating, at 11 locations in eight countries.

Drew Isaac of Muscatine recently completed the program and received a $1,000 scholarship. He interned at Muscatine Power and Water, according to the release.

"Students who participate in the worldwide internship program gain a better understanding of the manufacturing industry," said Janice Dolan, operations coordinator for IowaWORKS, in the release. "They also learn about the company and available careers through training, counseling and on-site learning."

The grant pays the wages, workers compensation, background checks and drug screens as needed. After the 100 hours, employers have the option to offer a part-time or full-time employment opportunity.
