The IHOP on the SouthPark Mall property in Moline is closed.
Craig Hoffman, senior manager, external communications for the restaurant chain, said in a news release that “the franchise for this location has decided to close the restaurant effective Jan. 14 at 10 p.m.”
Hoffman said that the franchise made efforts to contact employees on Friday and over the weekend to inform them of the decision.
The number of employees affected by the closing was not disclosed.
The company does not discuss the reasoning behind such business decisions, Hoffman said.
A sign on the door at the restaurant, located at 4410 16th St., says the reason the business is closed is “non-renewal lease.”
Earlier this month, the Quad-City Times reported that SouthPark, owned by Santa Monica-based Macerich Co., is undergoing what appear to be major changes, and most food court offerings have gone dark or are on the verge of closing.
NorthPark Mall also is owned by Macerich.
Macerich’s local property manager for both NorthPark and SouthPark malls, Kathy Jurgens, could not be reached for comment Thursday on the IHOP closing.
The IHOP at 53rd Street and Elmore Avenue in Davenport is open for business.
