A Wednesday night power outage at the Quad-Cities' Exelon Generation station shut down one of its nuclear reactors.
Around 7:08 p.m., Quad-Cities Unit 1 automatically went offline during a planned procedure on the unit's output circuit breakers. The Cordova plant's Unit 2 remains online, as technicians repair, inspect and test the nuclear reactor systems before returning it to service, according to a news release.
The Quad-Cities Generating Station is located about three miles north of Cordova, on Illinois Route 84 in Rock Island County. The station's two reactors can product more than 1,900 megawatts of carbon-free electricity, or enough to power around 2 million homes and businesses, according to the release.
