School: Cody Elementary
Parents: Sarah and Danny Kane
Why was student nominated? Teacher Amber Duncan said, "Kasey is a fifth grade student at Cody Elementary. Kasey is a hard worker and positive asset to 5D. Though she is quiet, she is always thinking! Kasey puts forth her best effort in everything she does inside and outside the classroom. I see her determination when trying to solve problems and when comprehending complex texts. Kasey is not a student that gives up or leaves a task unfinished. She is always willing to fix mistakes and learn from them. I have seen so much growth in her since the beginning of the year and I am looking forward to the rest of the school year with her. We all enjoy having Kasey in our classroom!"
What teacher has inspired you and why? Mr. Fermoyle (3rd grade) and Mrs. Ven Horst (4th grade) inspired Kasey. She said, "When I was down in my reading, they would help me by keeping my finger on the text as I read. They would say good job when I was done reading and cheer me on."
What is your favorite thing about school? "Reading, Math, P.E."
What are you most proud of? "Math because when I had Mrs. Ven Horst (4th grade) she really liked math and we would do math a lot in class. I got more interested in math because she helped us. Some of us would stay after school and work on math on the whiteboard. She made it easier by helping us and having fun with us at the same time. It was fun."
