Try 1 month for 99¢

Eighteen years ago, Becky Bernard was working a second-shift job in Davenport and regularly stopped by the Circle Tap for a drink with her colleagues after they got off work.

Bernard always meant to try the ribs then, but she never got around to it until earlier this month.

“I had always heard how good the ribs were. Honestly, this is our first time ever, and I’ve been meaning to for 15 years,” she said. “It’s delicious, it’s tender, it’s flavorful. It’s everything I thought it would be.”

Bernard split a full rack of ribs, which is $19.50, but the Circle Tap also offers a quarter-rack of its signature item for $7.50. Everything else on the menu costs less than $6 and definitely can be had with a drink and a tip for less than $10 per person.

Owner Debra Lundgren said her customers appreciate the value they can get from meals at the bar and grill.

“They think it’s wonderful. Especially in the economy now, it’s nice to be able to go out to eat for two people and spend $12 and you’ve had dinner,” she said.

The ribs are by far the best-selling food item at the Circle, she said. But other specialties include burger baskets that come with fries for $3 on Mondays and $2.50 between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturdays, a jumbo tenderloin basket for $5.75 on Tuesdays, a breaded chicken sandwich basket for $5 on Wednesdays, chicken strips and fries for $5 on Thursdays and a rib sandwich (made with the meat from the racks of ribs) basket for $3.50 on Sundays or $5.50 every other day of the week.

The Circle Tap also offers drink specials 2-7 p.m. every day. During happy hour, cans are $1.75, wells are $2, drafts are $1 and pitchers are $5.
