Iowa film critics choose 'La La Land' as Best Film of 2016

The Iowa Film Critics Association has selected “La La Land” as the best film of 2016.

Linda Cook, of the Quad-City Times, is a member of the association.

Other association awards for 2016 are:

Best Film: “La La Land” (runners-up: “Manchester by the Sea” and “Moonlight”)

Best Director: Damien Chazelle, “La La Land” (runners-up: Barry Jenkins, “Moonlight” and Kenneth Lonergan, “Manchester by the Sea”)

Best Actor: Casey Affleck, “Manchester the Sea” (runners-up: Ryan Gosling, “La La Land” and Denzel Washington, “Fences”)

Best Actress: Amy Adams, “Arrival” (runners-up: Natalie Portman, “Jackie” and Emma Stone, “La La Land”)

Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali, “Moonlight” (runners-up: Jeff Bridges, “Hell or High Water” and Lucas Hedges, “Manchester by the Sea”)

Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis, “Fences” (runners-up: Greta Gerwig, “Jackie” and “20th Century Women” and Michelle Williams, “Manchester by the Sea”)

Best Animated Film: “Kubo and the Two Strings” (runners-up: “Zootopia” and “Moana”)

Best Documentary: “O.J.: Made in America” (runners-up: “13th” and “Weiner”)

Best Song: “City of Stars” from “La La Land” (runners-up: “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” from “La La Land” and “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana”)

Best Score: Justin Hurwitz, “La La Land” (runners-up: Mica Levi, “Jackie” and Nicholas Britell, “Moonlight”)

Best Movie Yet to Open in Iowa: “Paterson.”
