DAVENPORT \u2014 Karen L. Abels, 79, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 23, from 2-5 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Karen was born October 5, 1938 to Raymond and Dorothy (Talbot) Lancial in Tracey, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Walter Abels on April 12, 1958, in Davenport. They celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Karen was the epitome of unconditional love. She was the number one spoiler of her children and grandchildren and gave the absolute best bear hugs. The children in the neighborhood called her \u201cGrandma Abels.\u201d She had a great sense of humor and was always telling jokes. Karen taught her grandchildren to drive and was known as the \u201cGrandma taxi.\u201d She made every holiday special with large meals and sending handwritten cards to her family. She enjoyed dancing, roller skating, and later going shopping and lunch with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Walter; children, David Abels, Deborah (Anthony) Vanover, Joseph (Becky) Abels, Mark (Dianne) Abels and Jeanne Neece; grandchildren, Tiffany (Joe) Sloma, Kayla Vanover, Robert Abels, Randy (Trina) Abels, Nicole Neece, Matthew Neece, Jeremy Abels and Luke Abels; great-grandchildren, Keyera Abels, Vader Abels and Isabel Sloma; and brother, Thomas (Annie) Lancial.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank Davenport Lutheran Home for the wonderful care of Karen and her family.

DAVENPORT \u2014 Howard M. \u201cHowie\u201d Shaw, 85, of Davenport, passed away\u00a0 September 18, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Friday from 4\u20137 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Howard was born August 21, 1933, a son of Art and Josephine (Seifert) Shaw. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On June 2, 1956, he was united in marriage to Yvonne \u201cMidge\u201d Way. She preceded him in death in 2012.

Howard retired from Farmall in 1984 and assisted his son in hanging plaster board for many years.

He enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching birds, \u201coccasional\u201d trips to the casino, and feeding his dog, Jayduh.

Those left to honor his memory are his six children: Rick (Barb) Shaw, Jeff (Jackie) Shaw, Kelly (Roger) Drapeaux, all of Davenport, Perry Shaw, Bettendorf, Vicky (Rick) Comins, Raymond, Iowa, and Lindsay Shaw, Gilson, Illinois; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson, and his lifelong friend, Bob Zogg.

In addition to his wife, Midge, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

CENTERVILLE, IA \u2014 Yvonne Miller I, was cremated by Thomas Funeral Homes in Centerville, Iowa. Yvonne is the daughter of Noah Albertson and Elorna Hendrix of Davenport. She married John Miller on August 9, 1975, in Rock Island.

She is survived by her husband, John, son, Shawn Miller, daughters, Audrey Alvarez, Robin Fuller, Yvonne Miller II, Nellie Jessop, Angela Miller and Tiffany Ducey. She has 17 grandkids and seven great grandkids. Sisters are Barbara Hesten, Gladys Yates, Pamela Albertson, Audrey Buesing, brothers, Noah Albertson Jr. and Robert Albertson.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed working with the children's church at her church. She also enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. She had two special friends that she liked to spend time with, Bettie Thomas and Janie Wood.

Pastor Brad and Monty will be doing her services at the Assembly of God in Centerville, Iowa.

DAVENPORT — Ronald “Ron” E. Noe, 72, of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Services will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, 838 E. Kimberly Road, Davenport. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the mortuary. Interment will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Genesis Health Services Foundation. Ron was born December 13, 1945, to Dieudonne and Hazel (Wagner) Noe in Davenport. He was a graduate of Assumption High School and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired after many years of employment as a technician with U.S. West Telephone Company.

Ron was an avid outdoorsman and was especially passionate about fly fishing.

Survivors include his brother, Gary (Virginia) Noe; nephews, Michael (Molly) Noe and Kyle (Doan) Noe; niece, Jennifer (Jon-David) Reeves; great-nieces, Claire and Kate Noe; great-nephews: Soloman Reeves, Samson Reeves, Zadok Reeves, Abram Reeves and Zakai Noe; and many life-long friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

DAVENPORT — Earnest “Leroy” Watson, 77, of Davenport, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Private burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Leroy was born September 14, 1941, in Trenton, Missouri, to Wyatt and Vivian (Dunkin) Watson. He married Diane Berkenbile in 1963 in Davenport. They went on to enjoy 41 years of marriage until she passed in 2004. He spent 25 years working at International Farmall Works in Rock Island. He retired from Genesis Hospital in 1996.

Leroy is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Dwight) Holmes; grandsons, Jeffrey and Brandon Holmes; brothers, Ray (Rita) Watson and Ronnie (Margaret) Watson; and sister, Sharon (Dave) Wilcox.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and son, Jeffrey Watson.

SILVIS \u2014 Michael P. Saey, 72, of Silvis died on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday prior to the services at the funeral home. Cremation will take place following services and inurnment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, at a later date. All need to use 60th Street for access to the funeral home.

Michael was born on November 26, 1945, in Moline, the son of Camiel and Germaine (Goergen) Saey. He married Connie M. Allardyce on November 2, 1963, in Moline. Michael was a member of the Viking Club of Moline. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and tending to his flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; children, Jeff Saey, Rockford, Illinois, and Kris (Kurt) Mirimanian, Silvis; grandchildren, Kayla (Forrest) Wiltfang, South Beloit, Illinois, Danielle Saey, Loves Park, Illinois, and Hannah Mirimanian and Allison Mirimanian, both of Silvis; and one great-grandchild, Avery.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

SHEFFIELD, Ill. \u2014 Beverly A. DeVrieze, 84, of Sheffield and formerly of Buda and Coal Valley, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home.

Beverly was born August 25, 1934, in Putnam, Illinois, the daughter of Howard and Merna (Daly) Henkins.

She married Gene Mechling. She then married Joe DeVrieze. He preceded her in death February 27, 2007.

Beverly worked at Deere & Co. in Moline, helped her late husband with the farming, made quilts, and had her own quilt club. She loved being with family and friends.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, and the Blue Cross Mission.

Surviving are her children, Dennis (Cindy) Mechling of Buda, Linda Walters of Buda, Debra Mechling of Kewanee, Virginia Morris of Bradford, Illinois, and Marjorie (Don) Milby of Sheffield; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Darrell was born on April 20, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa, to William and Violet (Belha) Machalek. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Jean Klabunde on January 26, 1957, in Davenport. He was employed for John Deere Harvester and retired after 30 years.

Darrell was a member of Heritage Wesleyan Church and was active in bible study groups and home bible study groups. He was also involved in bass clubs, Boy Scouts in LeClaire, fishing tournaments, trap shooting, LeClaire Levee Commission and LeClaire and Scott County boy's baseball. He was an avid fisherman and started J-mac Lures Company. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being involved with their activities. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Jean.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; children, Darrell Machalek Jr., Deon Machalek (Diana), Wendy Auliff, Lori (Brian) Amerine, Connie Enoch (Gary) and Lisa Slocum; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Sid; sister, Taina; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, two sisters, a brother and a grandson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Unity Point Hospice for their care of Darrell.

DAVENPORT \u2014 Tommy Lee Green, 78, a resident of Davenport, died Saturday, September 15, 2018, at his home.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Tom was born August 18, 1940, in Davenport, the son of Gilbert and Rosemary (Donahue) Green.

Tom was a painter by trade and a member of Glazier's Local 581 in Rock Island. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, and basketball. Tom loved to socialize and drink beer with his friends at Mac's Tavern in Davenport and various other establishments. He liked hot weather and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Those left to honor his memory include his son, Matt Green of Davenport; step-children, Tamara Kaminski of Davenport, Cathi Pilger of Bettendorf, and Eddie Block of Colona, Illinois; granddaughter, Gabrielle Green of Bettendorf; great-grandchildren, Nhea, Isiah, and Elijah; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Carol Washburn.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

DAVENPORT — Theresa J. Jackson, 67, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, surrounded by her loving family after an extended illness, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Runge Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Theresa was born on September 22, 1950, in Grant County, Wisconsin, to Ralph and Barbara (Blake) Pettera. She worked for many years as a CNA before becoming a stay at home mother.

Theresa was a woman with a big heart who would do anything for anyone and put other's needs before her own. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Hanover, Illinois, and she enjoyed NASCAR, the Green Bay Packers, traveling, playing bingo, and doing crossword puzzles.

Those honoring her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Millissa (Bill) Cole of Davenport; son, Raymond Stichter of Tomah, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Tyi, Shawn and Logan Cole and Cody and Dakota Stichter; great-granddaughter, Baby \u201cZ\u201d; sisters, Judy (Bruce) Moldenhauer of Hanover, Deb Schreiner of Shannon, Illinois, Kathy Roberts of Hanover, Marie (Russell) Stimpson of Wazeka, Wisconsin, and Pat Pettera of Hanover; brothers, John (Pam) Pettera of Elizabeth, Illinois, and George Pettera of Hanover; and her best friend of many years, Sharon Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Stephen, Dennis, James and Thomas.

MOLINE\u00a0\u2014 W. C. \u201cCam\u201d Gass, 84, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, September 17, 2018, in his home at Overlook Village.

William Camden Gass was born December 11, 1933, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Melvin Camden and Cecilia Wieland Gass. He married Arlene Darby in 1962, and they were later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army, and was employed in Engineering Standards by Deere & Co. for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Engineering Graphics Committee for the International Standards Organization. He enjoyed swimming, and swam a mile a day until he was 79 years old. His pride and joy were his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling all over the world and had visited over 42 countries. Cam cherished the time he spent with friends, and was always on the go.

Cam is survived by two sons, William C. \u201cChip\u201d Gass of Springfield, Illinois, and David D. Gass and his wife, Kim, of Moline; four granddaughters, Olivia Darby and Cece V. Gass, and Katherine E. and Audrey C. Gass; and a step-grandson, Austin O'Brien. He was preceded in death by his sister, Leila Hemmingsen, and his former wife and good friend, Arlene.

DAVENPORT\u00a0\u2014 Curtis L. Rostenbach, 63, of Davenport passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Per his wish, the rite of cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home of Davenport is assisting the family.

Curtis Lee Rostenbach was born November 16, 1954, in Davenport, the son of Walter and Barbara (Fahrenkrug) Rostenbach. He was united in marriage to Seatrice Robles in 1996.

Curt had been a computer programmer for CCH in Chicago and most recently for TriSource Solutions LLC of Bettendorf and East Moline.

He loved his family, friends, work, music, and especially his sci-fi. He was a loving husband, father, and kick-ass grandpa.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Seatrice, of Davenport; daughters, Beatrice Wilson and Rashida (Keyon) Bryant, all of Phoenix, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his aunt, Janice (David) Shradar, of Blue Grass; and a host of extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Frank.

DAVENPORT \u2014 Merle Lee Jesse Rudd, 46, known as Yogi by his family, died in an accident on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, in Davenport.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where a memorial service will be held at 4 pm.

Yogi loved the outdoors, fishing, cooking and painting. He had a very kind heart.

Survivors include his son, Nick Rudd-Wild; brother, David (Lynda) Rudd; sisters, Brenda (Benny) Wild and Cathy Sorrells (Kevin Duckett); special friend, Tracy Bell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Merle Rudd; and his brother, Brian Rudd.

DAVENPORT \u2014 Gregory Allen Sawvell, 66, of Davenport, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Private burial will take place at Davenport Memorial Park. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad-Cities. Memorials may be made to the Greg Sawvell Memorial Fund via GoFundMe.com.

Greg was born Feb. 17, 1952, in Davenport, the son of LeRoy and Lois (Stillwell) Sawvell. In 1970, he graduated from Bettendorf High School and was a skilled drywaller and painter for many years. He opened his own company, and was president of Sawvell Drywall.

He married Karen Makohen, with whom he had two children, Malinda and Dennis. He then married the love of his life, Elizabeth Kelling, on April 15, 2000, with whom he had a daughter, Amber.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family, and playing guitar. He was a Chicago Cubs fan, and an avid mushroom hunter.

Greg is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his mother, Lois; three children, Malinda Sawvell, Dennis (Rae) Sawvell and Amber Sawvell; two grandsons, Cory and Trevor Sawvell; brothers, David (Jan) Sawvell, Don (Cheryl) Skaw, Gary Sawvell, Roger (Sherry) Sawvell, Dean Sawvell, sisters, Marilyn Ridgeway, Sheryl (Rex) Deniso, Donna (Mike) Mueller, Dinah Sawvell, and Denise (Dennis) Ogburn; his dog and loving companion, Bud; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy.
