Dr. Laura Hansen, a  professor and cancer researcher who grew up in Bettendorf and Davenport and is the author of the young adult novel “Cruise of the Undead,” will be at three Hy-Vee Food Stores in the Quad-Cities on Saturday to sign copies of her book and chat with readers.

Her schedule:

* 9-11 a.m., 4218 Avenue of the Cities, Moline

* Noon to 2 p.m., 2900 Devils Glen Road, Bettendorf

* 2:30-5 p.m., 2351 W. Locust St., Davenport

She also will sign books at the Hy-Vee location in Muscatine, 2400 2nd Ave., from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Hansen, a biomedical sciences professor at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., and the director of the university’s Molecular Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis Program in the School of Medicine, has two children — Charlie, 15, and Jack, 12 — on whom the book is based.

According to a synopsis of the book at goodreads.com, “Some late-night sneaking around by Charlie and his brother Jack convinces them that the unimaginable is really happening: The recently dead are walking the cruise ship they’re aboard.”
