I discovered Sunday that I don't recover from a night out as quickly as I did when I was in college. So my husband and I only accomplished one of the tasks on my very short to-do list for this past weekend, continuing to refinish the last of the cabinet doors.
I did, however, make a daily task list so we can get the kitchen mostly done before my parents arrive late next week to help us finish the room. Here it is:
Tuesday, May 3
Lightly sand and apply a second coat polyurethane to the trim.
Lightly sand and put a second coat of polyurethane on the back of the cabinet doors.
Sand the kitchen walls and inside of the cabinet below the sink.
Wednesday, May 4
Lightly sand the trim and the cabinet doors. Set aside.
Start staining remaining trim and wood frames to add dimension to the cabinet doors and drawers.
Cut in three walls with cream-colored paint.
Thursday, May 5
Cut in accent wall and soffit with rust-colored paint.
Shoot video of the above task to create a how-to guide on cutting in without tape.
Apply the first coat of polyurethane to the remaining trim and wood frames.
Friday, May 6
Edit and post how-to video.
Prime cabinet interiors.
Paint the cream-colored walls.
Lightly sand and apply a second coat of polyurethane to the remaining trim and wood frames.
You have free articles remaining.
Saturday, May 7
Paint the cabinet interiors white.
Paint the accent wall and soffit the rust color.
Lightly sand the remaining trim and wood frames and set aside.
Sand the pocket doors and stain them.
Sunday, May 8
Apply the first coat of polyurethane to the pocket doors.
Install the cabinet doors and put the dishes away.
Monday, May 9
Lightly sand and apply a second coat of polyurethane to the pocket doors.
Tuesday, May 10
Lightly sand and apply a third coat of polyurethane to the pocket doors.
Wednesday, May 11
Buff the pocket doors smooth.
Deep-clean the entire house, which has gotten pretty dusty during the renovation.
Thursday, May 12
Finish anything we fell behind on.
My husband is on vacation next week, and I'll be off on Wednesday through Friday. My parents will arrive late in the evening of Thursday, May 11, so hopefully we'll stick to the schedule. That way we'll have plenty of time to run new electric line to the new recessed lighting, install all the trim, wood frames and doors, and hopefully hook up the dishwasher.
We still have to order new countertops, but we're having someone else install them. So the DIY portion of the kitchen remodel will be done. That is, it will be done if we get to work.
