The Women's Auxiliary of The Salvation Army will hold a fall brunch beginning with a bake sale at 9 a.m. Thursday at The Salvation Army, 1000 Oregon St., Muscatine.
Brunch will begin at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8, and are available from any auxiliary member or call 563-263-8272. Proceeds fund The Salvation Army youth day camps and programs. No tickets will be available at the door.
Barbara Collins, award-winning author, will be the featured speaker. A lifelong resident of Muscatine, she is a graduate of Muscatine Community College and Iowa Wesleyan College, with a degree in business administration.
She retired after 10 years with First National Bank to begin a career writing crime fiction, including the best-selling "Cat Crimes" series. Her stories were selected for inclusion in the first three volumes of "The Year's 25 Finest Crime and Mystery Series."
She has collaborated with her husband, mystery writer Max Allan Collins, on two stand-alone books, "Regeneration" and "Bombshell." Under the name Barbara Allan, the two are writing the 12th book of their award-winning "Trash 'N Treasures" comical cozy mystery series.
