For the first time, the Kwik Star Criterium will have equal cash awards for women’s and men’s pro racers.
According to a news release from Race Director Tom Schuler, prize equalization for pro racers is happening throughout United States pro bicycle races.
Last year, the criterium's top four pro women and men finishers received the same cash awards. This year, all 15 top women and men will split the $8,000 cash prizes equally.
The event first was the Moline Criterium in 1965 and has evolved over the years, eventually held on Memorial Day in 1975. Since then it has joined with other area races to form the Iowa Memorial Weekend Cycling Classic.
