Recount leaves Iowa Senate District 13 race result the same

With the last of the recounts finished in the tight Iowa Senate District 13 race, Democrat Tod Bowman has emerged the victor.

The Dubuque County Auditor’s Office reported Wednesday its recount of the results was completed and Republican Andrew Naeve gained just two votes.

It wasn’t enough to change the result.

With Jackson and Clinton counties completed, Bowman ended up with 10,017 votes and Naeve with 9,947, a 70-vote difference.

Naeve said Wednesday that he called Bowman about noon and conceded the race.

On Election Day, the unofficial results showed Bowman with a 38-vote margin.

That grew in the days after the election because of late-arriving absentees and other factors.

Naeve asked for a recount with the margin less than one percentage point.

The race was one of two that were being watched because of the close vote and the Democrats’ narrow hold on the state Senate.
