Q. Can you find out if the steel they are using for the new I-74 bridge is manufactured in the U.S.? – Linda, Eldridge

A. We contacted the Iowa Department of Transportation to find out. Danielle Mulholland, project manager for the Iowa Department of Transportation, responded:

"Correct. We are required to follow Buy America requirements on the I-74 contracts.

"We have language in our specifications that products of iron, steel, or a coating of steel which are incorporated into the work are to be of domestic origin. This includes melting and manufacturing in the United States."

Q. Are motorized wheelchairs allowed on local bike paths? There are signs posted that say "no motorized vehicles" are allowed. My husband has a spinal cord injury and uses a motorized wheel chair but would like to go with me and our grandchildren when we walk on the path. Is that allowed? – Laurie

A. Scott Hock, Davenport parks & recreation director, said, "Thank you for the note about the use of the bike paths for motorized wheelchairs. Motorized wheelchairs are allowed on the bike paths. We are actually using an updated verbiage on the new signs that we install along the trail system to say 'No Unauthorized Motor Vehicles' and motorized wheelchairs are considered an authorized use for the trails.

"We have been replacing signs as they are damaged or worn out so we do have several old signs still in place but hopefully we will have all of them updated soon.

"Thank you again for asking and enjoy the great trails we have in Davenport."

Q. Slopertown Road is going to be redone because of the new business in the area. Is 410/90th Street going to be taken care of from U.S. 61 to the Davenport Airport? The street in this area is in need of something. It is very rough. It may be one of the main roads to Slopertown Road. – R.J., Eldridge

A. Brian Schadt, Davenport city engineer, said, "At this time, there are no projects in the Capital Improvement Plan specific to 90th Street in Davenport. The roadway will be monitored and prioritized with other roadways in the system for any future maintenance needs."
