The Iowa State Fire Marshal has been summoned to investigate a fire at a Blue Grass home in which a body was discovered, Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane said Thursday night.

The fire fully engulfed the home at 13308 95th Ave., he said. The call for the fire came in at 6:08 p.m.

According to the Scott County Assessor’s electronic records, the home belongs to Cynthia and Gary Webb.

The body has not been identified, Lane said.

“We will likely secure the scene tonight and investigators will wait for everything to cool down before they go in,” Lane said Thursday night, adding that he did not know if the Scott County Sheriff’s Department would be the lead agency in the investigation.

Only one body was discovered in the home, he said.

“We hope to have more information sometime tomorrow as the investigation gets underway,” Lane said.

Lane said he was told that it was a very hot fire, and that he did not know the condition of the body.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine if the person died as a result of the fire or died by some other means, he added.
