A Moline man accused of breaking into the Rock Island County Courthouse last month pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of burglary and criminal damage to property.

Flavio Barona Jr., 19, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and entered his plea during a brief hearing at the Rock Island County Courthouse.

He will be back in court May 5 for a pretrial conference.

Rock Island County sheriff’s deputies say Barona broke a window on the east side of the courthouse, 210 15th St., on March 19, entered the building and caused “considerable damage” to a security office.

Court documents further allege that Barona damaged office furniture, computers and the door of a holding cell.

Barona was found inside the holding cell early on March 20.
