Two people were sent to Quad-Cities area hospitals after a Friday afternoon collision between a pickup and a semi on westbound Interstate 80 just east of the intersection with Interstate 74.
The collision happened about 1:50 p.m. when the pickup, occupied by two people, struck the trailer of the semi after the semi slowed because of a separate accident, according to the Illinois State Police. Both people in the pickup were trapped and had to be extricated. The pickup's driver was flown by helicopter to UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island, while passenger was sent to Genesis Medical Center, Silvis.

The incident was described by the state police as a serious personal injury crash, but details about the injuries or specific conditions of the two injured people were not provided in the release. The names of the people involved in the crash were not released.
The state police were assisted by Geneseo firefighters and Medforce Helicopter, according to the release.
Eastbound lanes were open within 15 minutes of the crash, but as of 4:21 p.m., when the release was issued, westbound traffic was being diverted from the highway at Geneseo.
