River Drive

River Drive in Davenport lives up to its name.

With active weather coming to an end, the projected crest for the Mississippi is becoming a little more certain. Currently, the Mississippi is projected to crest at 18.5 feet on Monday. Although minor fluctuations in the projected forecast may still occur, Davenport is prepared to implement the flood precautions as merited.

The current Mississippi River level is 17.35 feet.

Based on the current and projected river levels, the following flood impacts and measures have been or will occur in the coming days.


• S. Concord Street between Utah Avenue and River Drive, and Wapello and Miller avenues between Railroad Avenue and S. Concord are closed.

• All traffic on River Drive between Division and 3rd street is being detoured because of water over the roadway.

Access to the River’s Edge, Freight House and Farmer’s Market, and Modern Woodmen Park is available by taking Western to River Drive. 

• Beiderbecke is closed.

• River Drive at Mound Street have be reopened after being closed yesterday because of a sanitary sewer surcharge


• Credit Island is closed.

• The majority of the Riverfront Recreational Trail between Credit Island and Bettendorf City limits is closed due to water over the trail.

• Floodwaters are in LeClaire Park.

• The boat dock at Marquette Landing is not accessible..


• Access to the Compost Facility, 2707 Railroad Ave., is available via Rockingham Road to Wapello to Railroad avenues.

• The floodwalls at Modern Woodmen Park have been installed. Scheduled events and rentals are occurring as scheduled.

• The Freight House and Farmer’s Market are accessible via Western or Ripley. The layout and available parking will be modified due to water in the parking lot.

• The River’s Edge is accessible via Western or Gaines.

• Union Station will remain open for business.


• Sandbags are available for pickup by individuals impacted at these river levels by appointment. Call 563.326.7923 to request sandbags.


• The LULAC 2018 Military Salute will be held at the LULAC.

• The Decker Dash is moving to Duck Creek Park.

• The Run with the Bull 5K and 2018 CBRC Pumpkin Dash 4Km and 8Km run are also affected. The event host will inform participants of changes.

Other Measures

• Pumps have been, or will be set, and appropriate gates closed in various low-lying areas of the city.

We do not plan to issue another flood update until Saturday, October 13th, unless projected river levels change significantly.

The public is reminded to stay safe by observing traffic signs and staying out of flood water. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
