DeWitt celebrates Hometown Christmas: The DeWitt Chamber and Development Company has partnered with several community organizations to bring the third annual Hometown Christmas event to downtown DeWitt on Saturday, Dec. 6.
New activities include a holiday craft/vendor show from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the former True Value building at 714 6th Ave. and a lighted holiday pickup parade down 6th Avenue, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Central Saber Music Boosters will also hold a soup supper at the DeWitt Community Center from 5-7:30 p.m.
Santa will arrive at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Post 238, 704 9th St., DeWitt. Children will be able to meet Santa, take home a free photo with him and play Christmas Carnival games. They can pick up their Carnival prizes at the DeWitt Community Center, 512 10th St., where there will be doughnuts, juice and make-it and take-it crafts.
A free hot dog lunch and the showing of “Arthur Christmas” will be noon at the Operahouse Theatre, 716 6th Ave.
Evening activities kick off with a 1-mile Hometown Holiday Hustle fun run/walk down 6th Avenue at 4:30 pm. Registration, costume judging and awards be 3:30–4:15 p.m. at the DeWitt Community Center.
Visit over a dozen live holiday window displays from 5-7 p.m. Evening attractions include a live nativity scene, holiday performances and warming stations at businesses with treats and warm drinks. Children can search for the “Elf on the Shelf” hiding in the live windows with a chance to win their own elf.
A gingerbread house contest, with creations by local businesses and community members, will be in the lobby of DeWitt Bank & Trust Company. Visitors will vote for their favorite gingerbread house.
