Describe a classroom learning experience you’ll remember forever: I can think back to several occasions where I have retained information and learned so much. It’s not only about the curriculum, but the way it was taught. For me, it requires a personal and in-depth study. It must somehow relate to me and I must enjoy learning about it. Last year, when I was a junior, we learned about the muscles in our body. This can be an overwhelmingly hard concept to learn; the human body has so many intricate muscles! To help us think about what we were learning, my class made a video. In this video, we did everyday activities and explained what muscles we were using and how it affected our bodies. Not only was I able to have fun with it and be creative, but it’s a way I learned about a hard subject that I wouldn’t fully grasp in a simple classroom setting.

Describe a classroom learning experience you’ll remember forever: There are so many learning experiences that took place during my education. Picking just one to share is extremely difficult, but there is one that rises above the others. In my Anatomy and Physiology class my junior year, we were able to explore several different areas of the human body and how they function. I was amazed at just how much can be learned about what appear to be the simplest functions, such as hearing. One required assignment when learning about the brain was to make a scale model of the brain. I spent a lot of time making mine out of Play-Doh and labeling the lobes and cortexes. I love that class. I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. Participating in that class proved to me that I would be able to thrive in my future nursing career.

Describe a classroom learning experience you’ll remember forever: One of the most memorable learning experiences for me had to do with last year in Consumer Math. It was nearing the end of the year and we were just finishing up our last big project: The Game of Life. Because the school year was almost over- summer was just around the corner, stealing the majority of my attention- I did not finish strong with the project. The day came to give the final presentation and I had nothing. Because of this sudden downfall in my focus and discipline to work hard and finish strong, I got a low “B” as a final grade in Consumer, knocking me down from the Eagle Award. So what did I learn? I learned that no matter what, I need to finish strong. No matter what, I need to give my best to the work I have been assigned, just as it says in Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Describe a classroom learning experience you’ll remember forever: Every class in QCCS was really hard for me. British Literature, however, was the hardest class for me. The reason that I suffered in this class was because British Literature was the English class that taught me American English and Old English. Every assignment was challenging, especially essay assignments. My friend Gabe just took one hour to finish an essay assignment, but for me it took almost three hours to finish it. I tried to stick with British Literature and I feel my English skills are getting improved. An old saying said, “No pain, no gain.” For me, British Literature was my most stressful subject, but also it helped me the most.

Describe a classroom learning experience you’ll remember forever: During out twelve or more years in school, we have many different learning experiences. Some experiences that we remember are enjoyable, boring, or thought provoking. There is one learning experience that clearly stands out to me when I think about my learning career. At the end of my junior year, my philosophy class watched the “I am n” video series by Voice of the Martyrs. By watching these videos we had the opportunity to see how Christians in other countries are joyfully suffering because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Watching these videos changed my perspective of how I should be living my everyday life. I get to live in a country that has freedom, so I should be even more joyful than the Christians in other countries. This classroom learning experience taught me to live life more abundantly and strive for a fraction of the courage these Christians have.

Describe a classroom learning experience you’ll remember forever: I have always received the best learning experience in my Philosophy class with the teacher, Bill Olmstead. In his class, we talk about different cultures and religions, how they differ and how people should react to this difference. Even though sometimes my opinion is different than his, he makes me challenge myself. That strengthens my thinking. In his class, we often need to write long papers that make us think about how religions are different and influence culture. Many of the ideas that I wrote about, I had never thought about. Mr. Olmstead’s class made me think more, and grow more.
