The cause of a noon-time Thursday Bettendorf house fire remains under investigation.

The fire at 2114 Bellevue Ave. was reported around noon by a neighbor.

Firefighters arrived to see flames coming from the southwest bedroom windows, said Bettendorf Fire Chief Steve Knorrek.

The bedroom and the ground floor sustained heavy fire damage, and the fire extended into the attic, according to a news release from the City of Bettendorf.

Neighbors said the occupant of the home left about 20 minutes before the fire was noticed.

Crews searched the house to ensure no one was inside. A pet might have been inside the home, but firefighters hadn't yet found it, Knorrek said.

Riverdale and Rock Island Arsenal firefighters also were dispatched. Crews had the fire under control quickly but remained on the scene later in the afternoon.

The family will not be able to stay in the house tonight, Knorrek said.  There were no injuries. The American Red Cross provided assistance.

No damage estimate was available late Thursday.
