Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush on Thursday announced the endorsements of several farmers and other agriculture professions in Iowa.
The campaign said the former Florida governor's "Iowa Farm Team" would be charged with telling the story of his "commitment to supporting production agriculture" and Iowa's role in it.
Among those Iowans listed are Varel Bailey, a past president of the National Corn Growers Association; Thomas Dorr, a northwest Iowa farmer and former USDA undersecretary in George W. Bush's administration; former state Sen. Thurman Gaskill; Charles Sukup, president of Sukup Manufacturing; and Glen Keppy, of Davenport, a former USDA official and past president of the National Pork Producers Council.
"I respect the good conservative, fiscal and moral values that characterized Jeb Bush's leadership in Florida," said Cal Rozenboom, of Oskaloosa, a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation's board of directors, who also endorsed him.
Others on the Bush Iowa farm team are Jim and Jacque Andrew, Tom and Judy Barrett, Lyle Borg, Amanda DeJong, Doug Gronau, Keith Heffernan, Howard Hill, Keith Hora, Karol and Rozanne King, Jerry Mohr, Jim and Nancy Pellett, Glenn and Fauzan Smith, Harry Stine, Myron Stine and Doran Zumbach.
Bush will be in Iowa in mid-August to make stops at the Iowa State Fair and elsewhere, including an Aug. 13 visit to Davenport.
