The Government Bridge and Rock Island Arsenal's Davenport Gate are closed until further notice after a Canadian Pacific locomotive derailed on the bridge at noontime Wednesday. The locomotive partially derailed on the Government Bridge near Lock and Dam 15 at Rock Island Arsenal. The lock is also closed to barge traffic as the swing span cannot be moved. Railroad officials informed the Arsenal that they must bring a crane from one of two remote locations to put the train back on the tracks.

The Government Bridge to the Rock Island Arsenal will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6.Â
Officials said the closure was for required maintenance and that signage would be in place to direct traffic while it was closed. Drivers should use the Interstate-74 bridge or the Centennial Bridge until the government bridge reopens in the afternoon.Â
Pedestrian, railroad and river navigation will not be affected.Â
