Qualifications: I have always been an active member of my community who works well with others to create a positive impact for everyone.

Do you believe Iowa is adequately funding education? Explain.

I ran for the Pleasant Valley School Board because public education is a passion of mine. My education priorities are to ensure timely and sustainable funding and to close the per pupil funding gap. Mid-year budget cuts and delayed funding levels from the legislature make the job of school boards and administration much more difficult. The per pupil funding inequity plaguing many schools districts, especially in eastern Iowa, must continue to be addressed and I believe my experience in education and understanding of school funding will help me continue to eliminate that funding gap. I support giving locally elected school boards more flexibility in how they spend their funding to best support the needs of the students in their district.

Do you support Iowa’s move to a privately managed Medicaid system? Why or not?

The massive spending growth in Medicaid is crowding out funding for other priorities like education and public safety. I believe we need to continue to evaluate the Medicaid managed care process, ensure participants are receiving the care they need and providers are being reimbursed in an appropriate and timely manner. The oversight of the legislative branch is important to continue to monitor the program and to make any necessary changes.

Do you believe Iowa’s state government should bring in less revenue, more revenue, or about what it does now? Explain.

I will advocate for pro-growth policies like tax relief and regulatory reform. These policies will continue the growth the Iowa economy has been experiencing. When the economy is growing more career opportunities exist, businesses can grow and wages rise. Another benefit of a growing economy is increased revenues to the state and local municipalities, providing more resources for education, public safety, mental health and health care.

Would you vote to expand Iowa’s current medical cannabis law? Legalize marijuana?

As a mother of four, I sympathize with families struggling to find medicine to properly treat chronic illness. I support medical cannabis for individuals suffering from legitimate medical issues who have struggled to find other forms of medicine to treat their problems. I am strongly opposed to recreational use of marijuana.
