An entire generation of Quad-Citians never had the pleasure of dressing up and going to the Plantation restaurant for dinner. The beautiful old restaurant in Moline closed in 1980 — about a year after its debonair owner, Nick Chirekos, was murdered in his second-floor office. The restaurant later reopened as W.L. Velie's until May 10, 1992 when it closed for good. Originally Velie Villa, the mansion built by a Moline automaker, the building now is known as the hybrid Velie's Plantation. Let this gallery take you through the building's history.
